I take Provigil now. I took it in the past as well. It was introduced when I went into inpatient voluntarily for vegetative depression. Although not technically approved there are some studies that back its use for parts of depression like sleeping too much or excessive fatigue. As I remember it worked quite quickly and I stayed on it for years and years. I had to get approval because the drug is outrageously expensive and not approved for the use but I got it and took for a long time, only needing to increases after years.
I stopped for various reasons and a switch in my treatment. The new therapist/doctor decided that nothing typical was working and that we would try this. We were able to get approval more easily than I expected and now I'm taking it and functioning at a high level, which felt impossible at the time.
It is not an amphetamine so does not give me any uneasy feelings. I also have anxiety so I have to be careful with activating drugs. this in me produces a calm focused attention and gives the energy to deal with things. It is just a life saver and I wish they would approve it for more people and lower the price so that people that would benefit could have access. it is a miracle drug in my book.
