Moonkin, in 2004 I was in a place that felt a lot like what you describe. Not only was I emotionally isolated, I was house-sitting in a town where I had no acquaintances.
I started using some of the activities in Dr. Clay's free book about Self-Help available online. I had to go to the library and print out sections to read, because I didn't have an online connection where I was staying.
Other books that people praise are Feeling Good and The Feeling Good Handbook.
But Dr. Clay's book is what helped me when I decided I was going to crawl out of the hole no matter what it took. I would try one thing, and when I started slipping back, I'd try another, just like he suggests in the book.
