Resilience is definitely about bouncing back or recovering. It's a key concept in ecology. A forest can go through an extremely destructive disturbance, a large fire, and then over decades it recovers. Of course, it may lose its resilience in the face of some human disturbance that is not part of a cyclical pattern.

With people, some people can let emotional disturbances flow by and they pick themselves up and keep going. Others want to crawl into bed and give up. Maybe some of this is resistance, too, rather than resilience. Things just don't make a dent on some people, and they keep on rolling without even experiencing a disturbance. As I've gotten better with emotions, I'm glad to say I am not only more resilient in the face of extreme things, but more resistant to being disturbed by little things. Another ecological concept.
