Does anyone else watch tv shows that involve a strong friend group, because you lack one in real life? I find that often this is the case. Even if I don't particularly enjoy the show, if there is a strong friend group central to the story, when I'm feeling lonely I will watch endless episodes of that show.
I start to identify with the characters, and then begin to long for the kind of friendships they seem to have: A consistent, close group of five or six people. The crazy thing about this is that now I'm longing for something that was created as a sitcom template. The six-person friend group may not even be plausible in real life. Everyone has such busy differing schedules, who has the time to get together regularly with the same group of people?
But I want that all the same. And yet, the few friends I have now are all disconnected. I have no idea how to even begin such a group.
I guess one way would be to make work friends... but I feel like that could really backfire, especially when you need an escape from work.
