Hi Rose. I have CFS/FMS & I also have a terrible problem with lethargy. I take Cymbalta 60 mg for the FMS pain (it helps me a LOT.) When I first started taking it, it helped with the lethargy as well but that effect wore off.
SAM-e also helped with the lethargy, but not always. It was like the batches didn't have good quality control or something. It's been a while since I've tried that and I'd like to try it again.
A schedule seems to help me some with lethargy. I don't have much of one right now, but I've noticed in the past when I have activities scheduled at a reasonable interval for my health that I end up doing more. I suppose that's a bit like using habit to do an end run around the lethargy.
I have a separate diagnosis of major depression, too, and when I get new meds that help that, the lethargy gets better, too. I find it really difficult sometimes to tell the difference between the effects of the FMS and the depression.
Walking helps me a bit, too, but of course you have to get out there to do it in the first place.
Effective psychotherapy seems to help some, too.
In summary, I am not handling my lethargy very well at the moment and haven't been for months. My spirit animal is the sloth.
