We might not know all of the same songs. And I have a hard time picking a favorite too. I'd say that my favorites change from time to time, as one resonates with me and what I need at that point in my life. I don't know "The Old Rugged Cross." A couple of my favorites from when I was young are "I Stand All Amazed" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." I find new favorites all the time. One of them is "Children of Our Heavenly Father." Also, one that you probably don't know, "O My Father." I'll type the words to that one, since it's likely to be unfamiliar.

O My Father
O my Father, thou that dwellest In the high and glorious place,
When shall I regain thy presence And again behold thy face?
In thy holy habitation, Did my spirit once reside?
In my first primeval childhood, was I nurtured by thy side?
For a wise and glorious purpose Thou hast placed me here on earth
And withheld the recollection Of my former friends and birth;
Yet ofttimes a secret something Whispered, "You're a stranger here,"
And I felt that I had wandered From a more exalted sphere.
I had learned to call thee Father, Thru thy Spirit from on high,
But until the key of knowledge Was restored, I knew not why.
In the heav'ns are parents single? No, the thought makes reason stare!
Truth is reason; truth eternal Tells me I've a mother there.
When I leave this frail existance, When I lay this mortal by,
Father, Mother, may I meet you In your royal courts on high?
Then, at length, when I've completed All you sent me forth to do,
With your mutual approbation Let me come and dwell with you.

And another one:

With Songs of Praise
With songs of praise and gratitude We worship God above,
In words and music give our thanks For his redeeming love.
Then come before God's presence! With singing worship him!
Express the heart too full to speak, In one exultant hymn.
The Lord has said a heartfelt song By righteous ones is prayer;
A hymn unites us and invites The Spirit to be there.
Then come before God's presence! With singing worship him!
Express the heart too full to speak, In one exultant hymn.
In former days glad hymns were sung by seed of Abraham;
The Saints shall sing, when Christ shall come, The new song of the Lamb.
Then come before God's presence! With singing worship him!
Express the heart too full to speak, In one exultant hymn.

Part of what I love is the melody and harmony and the way that these songs flow, as well as their messages.
Do you know "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief?" That's another one that always gets to me. The melody is beautiful, and the words are touching too.
There are so many wonderful, incredible songs and hymns. Not the least of which, the songs of birds, including geese. We have two geese here, and when wild geese fly over, ours answer them. I am sure they wish they could go along with them, even though our geese are non-migratory domestic varieties. I think they still speak the same language.
