Hi there,

Went for my hypnotherapy appointment tonight but did not go through the hypnotism, just talked.

He did explain more that hynotherapy does not take pain away. The way he explained it is that there are two different areas of pain receptors in your brain. The first one is like when you hurt yourself and you have that initial shock of pain.

The second is after when your going ow, ow, it hurts, it hurts. It's that second one that meditation and hynotherapy can help you with.

We did a neat little exercise to see what types of actions may help with pain mgmt. He had me pinch my hand with my finger nails on ten different occasions and each time I did a different action while pinching to see if the pain changed.

The top three things that helped were:
#1 - Imagining my hand was numb
#2 - imagining myself in a safe and comfortable place (I had this in mind already because I use this play house I had when I was 5 years old
#3 - focus on different objects around the room.

He is also interested in meditation and will work with me on different techniques. Right now I can only concentrate if it's guided meditation but he said eventually, which practice, I should be able to do it myself.

Next week we will begin more pain mgmt stuff.

It's interesting and I'm enjoying the theory of it all.

Tranquility
