Gtrplayer - Prior to being diagnosed with fibro, I had my left knee replaced. I was only 39 and I healed too quickly and had to have 2 more surgeries and almost a year of rehab. So I began on oxy, moved down to percocet, and after the third surgery went to vicodin. There are alot of pressures on docs these days to not keep people on these pain meds for any period of time. In addition to me being an alcoholic, my pcp felt I should not take a controlled substance.

I never abused pain meds, ever, because I didn't want them taken away. So pcp sent me to rheumatologist who diagnosed the fibro. He then put me on Ultracet which is non-narcotic. In the beginning it worked, now all it really does is take the edge off if it's so bad that I'm crying.

I've also come to the realization that this pain will always be here in some form and I don't want to be on pain meds forever. They do tend to drag me down a bit. I'd rather find another way to deal with the pain if that's possible instead of trying another pill.

Although, there is a pill right now in FDA testing that is a pain pill that does the same thing as the narcotics but without the addictive properties or side effects. That wouldn't be so bad.

Really, the only pain pill that really worked was the Percocet and that really made me sleepy.
