Hi ItsCharAtkinson. I live in the UK and have found mental health services through the NHS unhelpful. I was fortunate to be able to afford my own private therapy, which I think would have been probably impossible for me to access via the NHS and if I could it would probably be a 2 year waiting list for psychotherapy.
If my therapist have approached our work in the same way that your counsellor did, I would have bolted. It has taken me ages to start to be able to recognise my feelings, so don't feel that you are wrong in the IDK's, I say that all the time.
If you feel that you do fit bipolar, I would just keep nagging your GP, or change GP's. Or maybe contact Mind, who may be able to help you in supporting you to find someone who you can work with.
Don't give up, it can take time to find the right person to help you.
