How much you will get depends on whether you were approved for SSDI or SSI. I think the max monthly amount you get from SSI is around $795.00. For the SSDI amount check your yearly Social Security statement or wait until you get your award letter. Also, depending on the date you were found disabled you may be entitled to back pay...which can be a considerable amount.

I've been on disability (SSDI) for just over a year now. When asked the dreaded question "so, what do you do?" I tell people "I'm gainfully unemployed"...it usually confuses them or catches them off guard and it quickly (although awkwardly) changes the subject.
