I am in the process of switching from depakote to lamictal (slowly) because of the massive side effects I was getting from the depakote (30 lb weight gain, lost half my hair, etc.). I was started on depakote while in the hospital going through a mixed state (and suicidal) so I'm a bit scared of the transition process because I just don't want to feel that way again. On the other hand, I also don't want to deal with depakote side effects forever either.

I am curious to hear from others who may have gone through this transition. I am very conscious of my moods from day to day, and now find myself getting concerned whenever I'm even the slightest bit irritable, for example. Any advice or personal experiences would really be helpful to me.

Hugs to everyone!
