Having a sponsor helps. You don't have to rush through them either. Right now, maybe just set your goal each day to not drink and pat yourself on the back each day that you go without drinking.
I like to do journal entries every day, like "Day 1 - Sober (date)" and then write about whatever is going on with me that day. It's cool because it helps me keep track of my days and I can also go back and read and see how much I progressed from Day 1.
I was rushing through the steps and then got overwhelmed by Step 4 because of all the bad memories I was having so my sponsor is taking me back through 1-3 more slowly. For some people, it takes them a year or longer just to get to Step 4.
