I've tried using both recommended techniques, which I hear work very well for some people, but they don't seem to work for me. Elastic bands worked better for me (as they stimulate a very similar feeling as cutting) but I abused the use of the bands and found myself causing damage anyway with them, and the ice cube technique ... well, it was too different a feeling and did not alleviate my urges.
Has anyone have any success in stopping? Any advice on how to go about it?
