Therapy is supposed to be your "safe place". Try to allow yourself to be comfortable there.
Just to respond to your first point, my therapist diagnosed me. I think the main thing a psychiatrist can do that a therapist cannot is prescribe medication.

And I agree on your suggestions of just asking "Did you get my e-mail?" I encountered this once with my T and was concerned about lack of response, when it turned out they hadn't had a chance to read it (and apologized), so I just shared what was in it.
