Supanova did a great job of describing it! To add to that, schizoaffective means that a person has both mood symptoms and psychotic symptoms, and that the psychotic symptoms occur both within the mood episodes AND outside of them. There's a bipolar type, in which the mood symptoms are both mania and depression, and then there's also a depressive type, in which the mood symptoms are those of depression.
