Last night, I drove my husband to his job then from there I drove to the mall and had to drive back home at night time.. I was feeling very anxious and I had two minor mistakes but overall did well, and there was a lot of traffic, lots of snow on the ground but I can't believe I did it by myself
That one mistake has become very common to me as it has happen before and where I live there is a lot of "one way lanes", I am going to explain it in case anyone has any advice towards it.
So, I am driving heading to a one way lane on the left side. My light is currently green there isn't a green arrow showing but it is still green and there is a sign that says "Left Turn Yield on Green"..
I start pulling up getting ready to take the left turn, but there is oncoming traffic and I let the cars pass by first and wait for a safe turn but as I am about to turn there is still one car heading towards me from the oncoming traffic so I got shook because I can't tell how fast he's going and if it is still a safe turn for me to go. I probably could have just speed up and take the turn but I froze instead. And I was already too far in for to go back. I stay there waiting for the car to come closer (mistake) thinking he's just going to drive forward but instead he stops (I am not sure if he is waiting for me to go or if his light turned red) so I am still there waiting as I notice he isn't moving, I proceed to make the turn but then he starts to drive forward and we sort of go back and forth as if we're telling each other "go ahead, no you go".. in the end, he shows me his hand and tells me to go so I took the left turn fast and continued on..
(Sorry I am very bad at explaining things especially when it comes to traffic)
This has happen to me before a lot, these one way lanes "yield on green" are so confusing at times especially when there is a lot of traffic. And I could just wait for my green arrow light to come on but people would rush you to make the turn when the light is green
Did I do wrong in staying there waiting and confusing the man? And should I have just drove real fast and took the turn rather than waiting for the car to speed up near me?
Here is a video that shows the position I was in
(The man in the video says to just drive on forward, of course he makes it looks easier than what it is at times.. there's times where you can drive fast and make the turn even when there is oncoming traffic.. and then there's times where you get shook because you see a car coming too fast and you're already half way in
