Direction, that is also how it works for my son. The T always communicates with the parents. My son still has private time with the T and I do not pry into the details of their private time. My son is not spied on nor is there any breach of trust between him and the T.

However, as a parent - I often share info on how it is going at home and school with the T.

I don't understand why your child's T can't speak with you - it sounds as though the info you have is important and that the T can be helpful in helping you share the news. I've never heard of requiring the child's permission before speaking with a parent.

My child's T has said many times that it is often both necessary and helpful to help the child through helping the parent.
