Sounds like the change to retirement along with his being out of work, is stressful!!. Finances are the number one argued about relationship topic, after all.
Maybe the money is masking, the romantic needs? Need to be prioritized? He's worried about losing you, it sounded, to me. It's true, men and women do speak different languages at times. He's hearing you different than what you are speaking.

Wow, I don't get any of that from this matter! His actions definitely do not fit a pattern of anyone concerned about a lack of romance! (His day to day behavior and his raging behaviors). But afraid of losing sounds way off base. If that would true, how could he be so inconsiderate of me, especially when I try to let him know my feelings in a civil manner without cussing him out like he does me!?
