I think it's deplorable and inexcusable that people in the "middle class" can't go to a psychologist! Unless you are dirt poor or retired on medicare, you are expected to pay on your own, and yet it costs so much that none but the rich can afford it.
If you haven't done so already, you might look on-line or in the phone book and see if there are any county clinics in your area. Sometimes hospitals and clinics don't advertise it, but when someone comes in and expresses the need, they have a fund that will help you out. It is a state/county partnership but you have to dig it up and go convince them.
