Patty, I have found that "runners" aren't worth keeping if their space is in the city. They're gonna run no matter what or behave and turn mean as if you had them tethered on a short line.

I've had two that did that. One was an Anatolian that thought the whole 10 mile long and 5 mile wide canyon was her territory including all the horses and cattle. Neighbors didn't like her trying to herd all of the cattle into one central location. LOL The sad part about it is she hung herself when I tried to contain her.

I had another one that was perfectly content staying on our 7 acres but when we sold the property, my daughter took her to N. Calif with her... to a large city lot, but it wasn't enough for Nakita. Every day when the family came home, Nakita was gone and they had to go looking for her. The last time she took off, I told my daughter she could stop looking for her after three days. I half-way expected her to show up in the canyon but no one ever called me that they had seen her.

The dog I have now, I honestly couldn't tell you what she'd do if she wasn't an inside dog. She's gotten away from me a couple of time and wound up getting hit by a car. Now she won't go near the gate that she got out from, though. LOL She might stay inside the park now, but I don't trust her and I love her too much to take the chance.

Good luck with your dog.
