I was reading, and did read permanent loss is more uncommon than regrowth. Read it's dependant on the individual and extent of damage to the follicles. Growth could be slower than in undamaged follicles and there's a chance color may be different, but to me, in my mind, may depend a bit on age when stopping the pulling of your hair. I'm certainly not a doctor nor expert, but say I, in my 40's pulled hair, it wouldn't surprise me to grow gray/white, kwim?

Have you found any support groups? Also read it can feel very isolating which makes recovery harder. Sounds like your hair is coming through?
