It's hard to not pull, I used to stand and look in the mirror, find any hairs that didn't feel right and pull them out one at a time with tweezers
Possible trigger:

I saw a fantastic therapist in 2008/2009 who helped me through my last OCD flare up. I managed to stop pulling then and I've not started again since, though tbh I've swapped pulling out the broken, tufty hairs that feel out of place with picking at the permanently thickened areas of scalp But at least my hair has mostly grown back. My hairstylist is great, he says he has seen it regularly over the years and is very supportive, bless him
