Per many therapy discussions: guilt is feeling awful about something you did, shame is more global - it's more like feeling awful about who you are, and embarrassment is feeling bad that other people know about the thing you did. To add another one I discussed in my session last Friday, humiliation is related to embarrassment but more public and more intense.
