This works for a lot of people but for me, (me, me, me) what works better is to recite what I'm grateful for in myself. Sounds self-centered but I do appreciate the world throughout the day, then I feel awful because I'm not worthy of it. The general principle of figuring out what needs shoring up and doing conscious affirmations is a good idea.
