Tonight is a special night at my high school. One of our traditions is the Grand Ball, a prom held especially for our special education students. Hundreds of students, parents, faculty, and community members come together to transform our cafeteria into a wonderland for this very special night. Limousines bring the students to the school, and students arrive in style. Students volunteer to escort special needs students, tuxedos, gowns, corsages, and boutineers are provided, dinner is served, and the partying begins. Over 300 students, both special education and regular ed. come together for the festivities. THIS is why I love teaching where I teach and why I still have great faith in our younger generation.

My sons have been active participants in Circle of Friends, an organization of regular and special education students who come together for friendship and support. My middle son, because of this kind of experience, has decided to teach special education. Just wanted to share this. I love these kids and this school.
Thanks for this!
