Not sure what the laws in Canada are. In the US, you can carry a short-term disability insurance policy which will pay a certain percentage of your income if you meet the requirements and/or your work may have a short-term disability program, but again, it is usually only partial pay benefit. Medical leave is not paid in the U.S.
