I have a driving phobia too and I've been driving since I was 16. I grew up in a tiny town with no traffic lights or stop signs or anything, just country roads. Those were fine, but now I live in a big city and there are only a few routes that I'm brave enough to take. I will go miles and miles out of my way to take the one bridge across the river to the east side that I'm comfortable with. And they're closing it for construction for a few days next month and I'm already panicking. I have to take that bridge to get to work. Other than that I have like a radius of where I can drive without freaking out. I can drive close in SW, close in SE, but not NW or NE at all (portland is divided into quarters) or any of the outlying neighborhoods. And I do NOT drive downtown. The couple of times I accidentally ended up downtown I either drove the wrong way down a one way street or had a massive panic attack or both. Driving phobia sucks.
