Birdwatching is a lot of fun. You get outdoors and meet all sorts of neat people, not as "earthy/crunchy" as one might assume. It is peaceful, you get exercise and fresh air, and the time flies when you're out trying to find birds. We take it for granted but birds are interesting critters.
Your local Audubon Society will have all sorts of information about programs. The walks usually focus on birds in general, migrant hawks, owls, shorebirds, songbirds, warblers, etc. It is a great stress reliever and a lifetime hobby that doesn't require a lot of money.
