Zoloft is an anti-depressant and some people with bipolar, myself included, can go into mania. I also struggle with irritability and anger issues with mania and mixed episodes. Mixed episodes are mentally and physically draining. Your doctor is trying to get you on meds because mixed episodes are very dangerous and he or she is most likely looking out for your well being. I'm not trying to force pills on you, it's your choice. For me I could not function without them, but they are not a cure all, it also takes therapy and the willingness to work on things. If you do choose meds it can possibly take a long time to find the right combo and they may need to be tweeked from time to time. So be patient, this is a life long process. For me personally, even though this disease may be bring me down, I just get right back up. I see that it has actually made me a strong person. Also, this disease is cyclical, so know that you won't be in an episode forever. I personally would suggest seeing a psychiatrist over a family doctor as they are more qualified for mental illness. I hope everything works out, and if you have more questions or need support we're here for you.
Thanks for this!
