My youngest son (9) was FINALLY diagnosed with ADHD. For the past couple years my whipper snapper has been bouncing off the walls, struggling to finish his homework, and being very disruptive in class. His primary was hesitant to "label" him last year. This year, he basically spent two minutes with him (my son was skipping all over the exam room singing and couldn't sit still) before acknowledging that I was probably right. He referred him for counseling and started him on a low dose of Ritalin.

This was Wednesday. Thursday we had to go to court for my oldest son's car theft/running away fiasco back in December. My little guy sat calmly through two hours of court! Not a fidget or peep from him! Sadly, it wore off after about five hours and he was mega hyper again.

It's just amazing, though, how the medication worked. He was still his quirky, silly, brilliant self, just able to sit still.

Now we have to figure out a proper dosage and schedule so he doesn't start wall-bouncing again after five hours.

He's happy about this, too. It's been hard on him. He cries all the time, wondering why he's like this. And why the other kids in his class don't like him. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Oh, happy day!!! :-)
