Something killed one of my two chickens about a month ago. Might have been a coyote, but I don't know. There are some dogs that wander the area too. The one I have left was so miserable locked in the coop by herself I started leaving the door open for her. I figure it's better she have a happy life, even if something gets her than be miserable.
I have eight chicks in a pen in the house. They are little bitty peeps, way too small to go in the coop yet. When they are big enough I'll move them to the coop.
