Welcome to Va. I hope you find happiness here. It has been a total nightmare for me here. The people are rude, stigma for people with mental illness is off the chart. People here do not treat transplants (their name for outsiders) well at all. As far as mental health services we are about 100 years behind other states. Be ready for "them wanting to warehouse you". Mentally ill people are told to stay away from normal society. Any chance they get they put us away for a long time. There is no such thing as integrating into this society if you have a mental illness. NAMI is completely run by the professionals. If you like to be told how what when and where to do things by your mental health clinician you will fit right in with NAMI. If not they will ban you from going to meetings. Thought u might want to be warned. If you have not moved my advice is stay where you are.
