When my old neighbors were being too loud, we usually asked them if they could be a little quieter or called the security guard the complex keeps on duty at night.

I would be furious with my neighbor if they called the police before contacting me on their own. That doesn't justify calling someone a psycho, but I understand being very upset.

If I were in your situation, I would ignore my neighbor and contact the front office if I continued to have noise complaints against them.
