Yes, I've been. Three and a half week involuntarily and I ended up staying another week voluntarily.

Possible trigger:

I did a suicide attempt, ended up in the hospital, did three other suicide attempts there (by strangling myself with the IV line and similar things). I was so suicidal that I had convinced myself I was going to die and that the only matter left was when and how. I didn't want to die because I felt bad and didn't think it would get better; rather, I didn't care anymore if it would ever get better, I didn't care.
Result of this was that I was totally calm and at peace (every pdoc and nurse and my parents commented that I was) and actually happy for a few days; I KNEW I was going to die soon and that made me happy, almost cheerful.

I think that if you're suicidal and want to be admitted to a hospital you're not really suicidal - or not THAT suicidal - because if you want to be admitted and thus have the chances of you commiting suicide reduced, you don't truly want to die, do you?

I still want to die but I'm immortal so regrettably that's not going to happen.
