Seroquel is an Atypical Antipsychotic w some mood stabilizing properties.
Valium and Xanax are traditional, meaning old, anti-anxiety tranquilizers called Benzodiazepines. They will take away anxiety but can also be very sedating. They also have high abuse potential and dependency can develop over time. Personally, I will not take any benzodiazepines because of these risks. They are effective for many though.
Many SSRIs like Prozac are the go to standard for depression and anxiety. In most cases, your pdoc will likely add a full on mood stabilizer, like Lamictal, to reduce the mania risk.
