I'm on Lexapro 20mg for PTSD. It is supposed to be very effective for anxiety and depression. I recently increased my dose to 20mg and I do feel WAY more calm, which in turn has the DID symptoms not so pronounced. I haven't had any crazy angry outbursts, and no days long depression where I stay in bed and cry. I was always anti psych meds, but the Lexapro really has helped me. The only side effect was a bad headache the first day.
I've also been prescribed Abilify, which I did NOT like. It caused major body twitches at night while I was trying to sleep. The entire next day I felt like a zombie and could barely function. I felt brain dead and numb of all feelings and I didn't even feel real. Abilify is an antipsychotic medication, and works for some people. I don't think it worked on me cause I don't believe I'm psychotic. Don't care what my therapist says! Lol.
The Lexapro on the other hand is an antidepressant, which works well on me. I probably do have a serotonin imbalance that the antidepressant helps, but I'm not psychotic (sticks tongue out at psychiatrist).
