I was about to make a post just like this one bubbles. You beat me to it!
I'm struggling from lack of motivation too. Sometimes I wish they had a mood icon for "unmotivated".
Just today, my parents told me that if I pass my license exam, they're going to buy me a new car. After my initial reaction of disgust for such a materialistic tactic, I started thinking... WHY is it that people need to place rewards for themselves at the end of a difficult task? For example: graduation gifts. Or on a smaller scale... "if I finish doing this problem set, then I can eat a piece of chocolate!"
I know it comes as no consolation to say that we need to figure out how to set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely). But I think it's more actionable than wracking our brains trying to understand the root of our motivations (like why do we want it? why don't we feel able to do it? why am I avoiding it?) Focusing on what will keep us on track to attaining it is probably going to make us feel better about ourselves in the long run. Don't worry about the set backs. Just take a deep breath or a short break, and keep on going.
Just keep swimming~
