I think it's not uncommon - although the complete withdrawal on her part is a bit odd. I take it as a warning sign when people's interactions with me are 90% complaints. These people, like your coworker, tend to be self-absorbed, in my experience. They don't want to listen to anyone else complain or talk about something that's not directly related to them.
