I like having a psychiatrist who is a real MD. Actually I think my T would insist on me seeing one even if she COULD prescribe because I am fairly treatment resistant. After I had gallbladder surgery I was very dizzy and very weak constantly, and my surgeon brushed it off with "it's anxiety, talk to your pdoc." Anyway, turns out I was very anemic and it was my pdoc who was the one who did the blood tests and discovered it... It seems less likely for a T to discover underlying things like that. Also, I am on an MAOI and even a lot of pdocs aren't comfortable following patients on them because of the risks, so I don't know about a psychologist without med school doing that.
