It's standing. Yes even just the thought of having to stand for a (seemingly) prolonged period of time can seem impossible.

Sorry can't explain it, but I can empathize with your son. Maybe see if you can speak to one of his doctors (psychiatrist, therapist, whatever) and just ask some general questions about depression. Maybe they can explain it better.
