For me it is distraction until I get help with the meds and my therapist I once staved off suicidal depression a whole winter just by reading 10 hours a day every day. For me there are a few things that I get so absorbed in that my mind just stops having thoughts all together. It is internet, movies , video games and books I know they can be complete wastes of time but if you need the relief of your mind to stop with all the negativity go for it any thing that can bring some relief
