Not knowing anything about your parents... it might be hard to give advice. I think it would be nice to have a t there. If your parents do not have an understanding of addiction..having an objective other could be helpful.

Through my life experiences I learned that many people started drinking/drugs/sex/or whatever, including myself, to self medicate.... so I understand to look at the why... not to make judgments about self-control.

I have much empathy for people that are in so much pain and self-medicate and it makes it so much harder to get well. It's sad.
