I don't believe that there are any mistakes, just lessons and expereinces learned. It takes time to learn all of these things and you are right, it is very confusing. Maybe we are looking at the big picture instead of looking at one part of it at a time. The big picture can be over-whelming and confusing and too stimulating. But, focusing on one part of the picture can bring understanding and eventual peace. Can you try and just look at one part of the picture? It may be difficult at first and feel "unnatural" but as you get used to it, if it helps, it will become more natural and "second nature".
