Some of my clients at work used "Mederma" (sp?). I can't say I personally know how good it is, but it's there and it's specifically made to reduce the appearance of scars.

And if your scar does turn purple it may lose that color in a couple years. Don't know if that's any comfort, but I have a burn scar that used to be raised and purple. It now matches my normal skin color perfectly, although it's kinda weird and wrinkly-ish.

I've also heard that lotions containing cocoa butter can help, but I don't know if that's an old "wives tale" or the truth.
