I'm glad that you are ok. With Tomi, that makes three votes for you to come to Utah! That would be great! About the winters, yes, in most of Utah winters can get severe. However, the SW corner of the state is really nice. Check out St. George ! (the official city website, with webcam) They call it Utah's Dixie. I'm about 45 minutes from there now - and at a higher elevation so we will still have snow and stuff here, but not the fog and extreme cold that we had in Vernal. About half way to St. George from here you can see the changes in vegetation (Joshua trees and various cacti), and in St. George they have palm trees. You would love it there! Utah does get occasional mild tornados and earthquakes, but they are rare and don't generally do any significant damage. Vernal had a tornado (F-1) a few years ago and it was big news that somebody's barn got smashed.

You could also think about coming out just for the hurricane season. Cost of living is much lower here than in Florida too.

Just do what you need to so that you will be safe, and let us know how it's going when you can!
