Do you find that the rage is not placed at something specific? It might have been triggered, but it's not really about the thing that triggered it? That's how it works for me. The only thing that I have been able to do combat it is physical, aggressively physical, activity.
Meditation helps a bit -- I mean the sitting crosslegged (if you can, I can't) or seated in a chair and focusing the mind to pay attention only to the breath. It's a LOT harder than you might think.
Hang in there....it will pass.

it is exactly like that! My spouse yells (frequent trigger) and my reaction is rage with wanting to bang my head, leave for a bit, or implode before I explode. I have been trying the breathing, takes practice for sure.
