Once your 18 you're put with adults, only under 18 are put on an adolescent ward. I've been in many different hospitals, and they have been different with how they do things. Some were smoking, and some were non-smoking. But none of them allowed MP3's or Electronic devices, because some patients have problems getting into other people's property, and they might have problems harming themselves in certain ways like swallowing batteries, and such. They would let you wear your own clothes after they searched them, like the others said, for anything harmful, even drawstrings they wouldn't allow in the clothing. But I knew that,so I'd take them out first. They can't force your meds. unless you've been court ordered to take them.At least that's how it is in the U.S. But if you sign in voluntarily, then you can leave when you want. But,if the Doctor feels that you are a harm to yourself or others when you want to leave,he can slap a 72 hour hold on you! Against your will. I've had that done to me several times. I was voluntary, and as soon as I said I wanted to leave, they didn't think I was ready,so they called the Doctor and put me on a 72 hour hold so I couldn't leave, until the Doctor had a chance to come in and evaluate me and decide whether to keep me longer,or if he believed that I was okay to be released. So I believe in getting help, but I never trust the title "voluntary". That's because of my experiences though, that doesn't mean it's like that everywhere!
