That was very unprofessional of him to tell you that. The subtext is that he has issues with paying his wife so much. Otherwise, why would he ever tell you? Very unprofessional.
Your money is going to pay your pdoc, not his ex-wife. It is up to him to pay his bills out of his salary. The divorce settlement is simply one of his bills. At least he is paying his bills (unlike your ex---I'm so sorry). Even though she is buying a new house, he may have got other property in the settlement, such as their primary residence, which may be worth a bundle, but that's not a part of the story he is choosing to tell you. Keep in mind that you are being manipulated to think what he wants by his choosing only certain pieces to tell you. His unprofessionalism really boggles the mind.
Hang in there, Lothlorien, and try not to think about your Pdoc's personal problems.
