I handled a clown-student well at work today. I teach for a living and have been known to bite off a head or two. The kids like me and respect me but I know I need to do things differently.

So today I see him in his usual locale - goofing around in the hallway during class. I walk up to him and say "listen, you're already funny......I mean Richard Prior funny. You don't need to be funnier, you need to be smarter. Get to class".

And off he went without a word. But he'll be back.
