heres a bit of info....
no munchausen syndrome is not considered a factitious disorder of self. here in america fictitous disorders are split up into two categories....of self, and of others. munchausen now is in the fictitious disorder of others category.
here in america factitious disorder of self is when someone is purposely causing ....their self ...to emulate\fake\ pretend they have a mental disorder or a physical health problem. most people with this do not admit to faking a mental or physical health issue, simply because to do so sort of counter acts the reason behind doing it...
example someone faking having cancer may do so for the money, gifts, attention... but if they admit to faking what happens to all that money gifts and attention...its no more, people stop giving the money gifts and attention due to there is no cancer... (not to mention doing so in some cases can be considered a crime/scam here in america)....see what I mean. its actually to the persons advantage to not admit that they have faked having mental or physical health problems.
as far as I know here on psych central there may or may not be those with this problem but due to how the site is set up (where all posts must be supportive and as a general understanding accept the poster and posts for being and having what ever they have posted they are and have) you might not get much in the name of replies since your post is basically asking people to admit that they fake mental and physical health problems.
a suggestion maybe call around to treatment providers in your location. they may know of some therapy and support groups that may be willing to disclose their selves and give you information on this problem.
here is a link that can give you more detailed info based on american standards....
